Cabanne

Jean-Guillaume Cabanne owns a solid education as a Jazz musician and used to hold the guitar in various Paris underground funk bands. Cabanne really got over to electronic music with two EP’s for Logistic Records in 1997 in collaboration with John Thomas. He had discovered electronic music in the beginning of the 90′s and was already active in the house and techno scene in Paris, helping to promote events and occasionally working the lights at the famous Rex Club. In 2000, he is given the opportunity by the Logistic team to set up his own sub-label Telegraph, exclusively dedicated to the music he stands for. In the meantime, he also releases on a few other groundbreaking

labels like 7th City, Perlon or Karat. In 2005 he creates his own label, Minibar Music, quickly setting a reference in this particular style of music. Cabanne also likes to engage in group activities, most noticeably with Ark as Copacabannark, with David Gluck as Ultrakurt or with John Thomas for his Blackstage project. Cabanne now has a solid 10 year experience as a DJ and live musician, touring around the world’s most reknown clubs and occasionally participating in improvised jams with Ark, Thomas Brinkmann, Daniel Bell, Audio Werner and most notoriously the Narod Niki live project initiated by Ricardo Villalobos.

2010 saw a turn in Cabanne’s career with the inauguration of the Minibar in the centre of Paris, a small, human-sized place somewhere between a bar and club, where lovers of music and experimental art can gather and create. 2011 will also finally see Cabanne’s first solo album.

2011: What’s next?

Berlin, January 11th, 2011

It’s been a while since we put out some news, so here we go. As you may have noticed, we changed our website to a blog as it’s easier to keep it up to date. Since we setup the shiny new blog, I felt it’s a good idea to keep our fans a bit more informed on the process instead of just posting static releases all the time. So what have we been up to other than getting totally intoxicated over the holidays? We’ve been preparing a few upcoming releases such as the awesome album by Sven Laux, a little EP by myself 0x7f and another big album by DoubtingThomas. So there will be plenty of new tunes coming out soon. The Australia EP, our latest vinyl by Easy Changes received great feedback and is in the bags of DJs around the world. The release is limited to 300 copies and we don’t know if there will be a repress, so hurry up and get it in your favorite record store such as decks and many more!

We are also working on the third vinyl record with a very special producer, that we won’t name yet. More on that once we sorted out all the details. Other than that we also added a DJ set by my partners Sebastian Koch and Subjunk that you can download via soundcloud. This well selected mix with some unreleased material should help you through the leetless time until we release the next EP ;)

Last but not least, we would like to thank all our dear friends and fans for all the support over the last year! We’re proud that you’ve all been showing your appreciation towards our work so much. Since we never bothered to generate money with the label and rather just do what we love, it’s great to see it’s well received!

[LEET 002] Easy Changes – Australia EP

Today we unleash upon the masses our second vinyl record ‚Australia EP‘ by our dear friends Easy Changes! The duo is known for their creative minimalistic style with lots of field recordings mashed up into funky rhythms. Yet again they continue to provide their unique symbiosis of rhythmical patterns with the world of mysterious sounds and dark moods. The core of their music has continued progression, like a story being told with multiple scenarios between the past, present and future life.

Traveling and touring has influenced the artists and gave them lots of inspiration, which keeps coming back in the beautiful form of music. The Australia EP has three original tracks on vinyl and one digital bonus track. A1 is a mighty club track that builds up with lots of different and nicely arranged elements wrapped into a cloud of reverbs and delays on top of rhythmic percussions and massive subs.

B1 brings even more heavy subs into the game. A dark pushing minimal track with plenty of twisted field recordings, that well known ‚Easy Changes‘ groove and a beat made for the dancefloor that no real raver could resist. B2 is a deep and dark tune with a pumping bassline and cleverly arranged percussions that form an amazing industrial feel. Mysterious melodies and well chosen breaks round up the track perfectly. The digital mp3 release includes a bonus track named ‚Synanceia Nana‘. It is another bouncing minimal tune ready to hit the clubs. Dark and freaky FX meet resonated patterns floating in a cloud of metallic noises and subtle clicks and breaks. From Russia with love <3

[LEET 001] Someone Else – Zebra Talk EP

We finally did it: We proudly present to you our very first vinyl by none other than Mr. Sean O‘Neil aka Someone Else, the mastermind behind Foundsound records! Known for his awesome releases on various labels and for filling dancefloors all over the world, he delivers a cool club track called ‚Zebra Talk‘. Driven by a heavy, minimal beat, this track offers freaky, distorted vocals, spooky breaks and enough tension to keep the crowd moving. We also provide you with some great remixes: The first one by Miskate is a more linear approach to the original track, featuring loads of percussion and neatly arranged breaks surrounded by massive reverb. The second remix is by the Argentenian producer Omar Salgado. A groovy new bassline and full of deep variation, this track moves into a different direction. Last but not least our Japanese friend Den comes up with a perfect DJ tool, only available on the digital release.

[1337-021] Sven Laux – An Unconventional Exposure LP

Put on your dancing shoes girls and boys, we are back again with a marvellous release by Sven Laux! Straight from the Berlin underground Sven has been releasing previously on labels such as Archipel and lately received a lot of attention for his brilliant album on Microcosm Music. For us Sven delivers a trippy minimal album with a touch of glitch, ambience and lots of funky breaks and cuts. Smartly arranged tunes that seem to bend time and space, archived through twisting and deforming of samples wandering through a wave of delays, clicks and strange noises. All tracks are fun to listen to wether you are at home, or spacing out in the back of a small smoky dance floor. On top of all that you get a variety of fantastic remixes from Sul.a, who provides his own down beat / ambient interpretation of ‘Rectifiable Curve’, Marc Neyen who adds a funky groove to ‘Co-Elliptic Curves’ and finally Martin Teysera (Monoblock) with a driving techhouse remix of ‘Laws & Errors’. Now if that ain’t something.

[1337-020] DoubtingThomas – Technocolor Tangle LP

Here we are back again with a stunning album called ‘Technocolor Tangle’ by DoubtingThomas. Each track is creatively forming itself around four to the floor beats and every element you need or could possibly hope for in this genre. If it’s deep bass lines, distinct melodies, abstract textures or rhythmic percussions. You can instantly hear that it’s made with professionalism, fun and love for the little details.

A great combination that totally fits our ideals of handmade minimal techno – sometimes raw, abstract, funky or dynamic and without factory presets. Once again music for the soul and the dancefloor alike. This is truely an outstanding piece of work and we are happy to share it with you now after months of hiding it on our harddisks.

[1337-019] Kai – At The End Of The Day EP

31337records is back once again with a killer release by our Japanese friend Kaitaro Nakajima aka Kai. From bouncy minimal to shaking house, whatever he does, it just sounds right. Quality productions with a touch of style that simply amazes the interested listener. You will surely enjoy the well choosen field recordings, rhythmic percussions on top of repetitiv melodic elements and lovely static noises.

He cleverly adds vocal cuts and breaks just where they belong to give the tracks their final touch. Minimal and Tech-house mashed up with an experimental edge. Kai is no stranger in the scene and has previously released on labels such as Alphahouse, Revolver and Süd Electronic. To round it all up, Pheek did a great job as usually with the mastering.

[1337-018] Pachyderme – L’ Homme Végétal Part 2 EP

Here we go, this is the second part of Franco’s release called ‘L’Homme Végétal’. Passionate downtempo tracks to space out and let the mind flow. These tracks invite to sit back and enjoy the soundscapes floating through the air, distinct from the usual, far away from the ordinary, but always classy and straight to the point.

Lovely melodies surrounded by a variety of percussions, effects and four to the floor beats, although this isn’t aimed for the dancefloor at all. Intelligent arrangements, minimalistic complexity and ambience forms into a timeless piece of art. Special music for special people. You can download the full release for free in 320bit mp3. Now who said, we ain’t nice?

[1337-016] Pachyderme – L’ Homme Végétal Part 1 EP

Let us introduce you to Pachyderme, our newest addition to the 31337 family. This young man from Córdoba, Argentina, produces thoughtful music for the soul. His first release is so big that we had to split it up into two parts and still, both parts are very long plays with +20 minute tracks. So here is the first part, quality minimalistic downtempo tracks to relax and enjoy for every occasion. Each track builds up slowly over time and leaves enough room for the listeners mind to wander around. Creative music that lasts and lasts seemingly forever, but never loses its flair. The release is available as free download in 320bit, so grab your copy now while its hot!

[1337-015] Den – Back To There EP

We are happy to announce our newest album from Den, one of Japans most talanted artists. He delivers you 8 wonderful tracks ranging from minimal to tech-house. Den takes you on a wild ride, a journey back to there. On the way you will be accompanied by deep sub lines, wonderful melodies, funky rolling percussions, lovely vocal cuts and interesting samples. Den was born in Tokyo and brought up in Tokyo, but he was living in several cities around the globe such as St. Pauli or London and is currently living in Berlin. He started his music career as a freelance cm/cf music creator and has released on labels like ‘Multi Vitamins’, ‘Clever Music’, ‘Op.disc’ and of course 31337records. Den ‘the man’ puts a lot of thought into his productions, so each track is perfectly arranged and never gets boring. The album has already been played in lots of clubs around the globe and always received great feedback.
