[1337-025] Undefault – Faking Jazz Together EP

Our next digital release is finally seeing the light of day. This time by Undefault, a newly discovered and very talented duo located in Moscow, Russia. These guys deliver top notch minimal techno with a systematic and club oriented design. Everything in their tracks works well together and is stripped down to a minimum. Dark themed tracks full of sneaky clicks and cuts emerging out of wrapped up field recordings and a variety of melodies dancing around trippy beats. Fragmented samples and layers of percussions haunted by creepy pads and occasional vocal cuts round up each track perfectly. All these carefully selected elements form a perfect symbiosis in a minimalistic, yet complex way. Always interesting and mind bending minimal straight for lovers of this genre. On top of that you get an awesome remix of ‘A2′ by Sebastian Koch, whose style fits perfectly to the work of Undefault! As usually, the full release will soon be available in your favorite download stores world wide.

[LEET 004] Akiko Kiyama – Where Are My Shoes? EP

New black gold is on the way! 31337 Records’ first vinyl for this year, the ‘Where Are My Shoes?’ EP by Japan’s minimal techno queen Akiko Kiyama, including a fantastic remix by Mr. Bruno Pronsato. An outstanding release full of abstract minimal techno goodies ready to hit the clubs. Punchy bass lines on top of rhythmic percussions, exposing a twisted dark tale on the hunt for lost shoes.

Akiko Kiyama has been a prominent figure in the minimal techno scene since she first started producing in 2004. She is the first female minimal techno producer to have come out of Japan. Her previous works received outstanding support from the industry and names such as Richie Hawtin, Sven Väth and Ricardo Villalobos. Inspired by such an overwhelming debut Akiko went straight back into the studio. Her sound consists of complex sound patterns that are often raw, industrial, dark and moody.

The EP starts off with ‘Anaesthesulf’, a well arranged DJ tool, repetitive but complex. Well structured patterns surrounded by lots of hats, percussions and playful melodies. Followed by the second track called ‘We Are Tubes Inner Tubes’, a real dancefloor killer for the early morning hours. Trippy percussions, seemingly foreign vocals by Lisokot and twisted sample cuts topped with well selected effects give this tune the perfect shape. The B side continues with ‘Gavotte II’, a dark and pounding track with lots of variation and freaky sounds emerging seamlessly from the background. Mysterious melodies, a bouncy snare and occasional vocal cuts perfectly aligned in front of a pumping bassline. The last track is a remix of ‘Gavotte II’ by Bruno Pronsato who introduces a lot of melodic bits and samples, turning the track into a new interesting direction. Fancier of his work, will instantly notice the usual Pronsato style. Creatively built sound structures, cleverly arranged with a variety of new elements and headed by a funky beat.

On the digital release, we’ve included a bonus track named ‘Take Your Skeleton In The Closet’ that didn’t fit on the vinyl. Another well built production with an mysteriously obscure melody emerging between a rolling beat, full of interesting elements and layers that keep moving and somehow remind of ancient times. The whole release is an impressive and very well arranged piece of art that shouldn’t be missing in any DJ bag! From Berlin to Tokyo – see you barefeet on the dancefloor!

[1337-024] Marteaux – Efluente EP

We are thrilled to present you our next release by Martin Briano aka Marteaux, another great artist emerging from the depths of Buenos Aires, Argentina. His latest work with the title ‘Efluente EP’ is a well selected piece of bouncy minimal techno as we love it. Complex arrangements with repetitive movements that true fans of this genre will definitely appreciate. Each track on this EP tells its own little story.

Playful minimal with nicely chopped up rhythms inside layers of trippy samples and interestingly designed sound structures. Funky beats surrounded with a variety of interesting melodies, occasional vocal cuts and of course deep basslines. The whole package is very well produced and totally fits our expectations of quality music, without compromises. You can get your own copy soon in all your favorite download stores worldwide.

Akiko Kiyama

Japanese, Tokyo born Akiko Kiyama has been a prominent figure on the minimal techno scene since her first released productions in 2004. The first female minimal tech producer to have come out of Japan now lives and works from Berlin, Germany. Akiko grew up with an education dominated by music, a classically trained pianist and guitar player by the age of twelve, she went on to explore and teach herself how to fuse her classic skills with sounds created by electronic equipment. Over the years that followed Akiko fell deeper into dance music, eager to evolve and create electronically manipulated sounds and atmospheres, she began producing in 2002.

Kiyama’s first works were released in 2004; her debut EP ‘Dimension’ on London’s Sud Electronic received outstanding support from the industry and names such as Richie Hawtin, Sven Vath and Ricardo Villalobos. Inspired by such an overwhelming debut Akiko went straight back into the studio, the result of which was her ‘Like Ancient’ track being licensed by M-nus Records and going on to appear on Richie Hawtin’s DE9 Transitions Compilation. Akiko’s sound is a complex pattern of sounds. Raw and industrial, dark and moody, her signature sits firmly within the minimal style, but with a melodic structure that gives shape and structure.

It’s rare that a sound so minimal results in something so engrossing, something that sucks you in and keeps you listening intently on what’s going to happen next. Akiko’s tracks feel like stories, captivatingly told through her experimentation with sound. Now based in Berlin, Akiko holds a hefty 15 releases to her name on world renowned labels such as Contexterior, Thema, Lick My Deck and Safari Electronique amongst others. ’7 Years’, Akiko’s first solo album, released in 2008 on District of Corruption is an eleven track showcase of this artists complex talent. Live performances in London’s Fabric, Berlin’s infamous Berghain and many more worldwide; Akiko Kiyama continues to develop, produce and release as well as pushing the boundaries of minimal techno with her live set’s performed around the world.

Bruno Pronsato

With his heady, intricately woven tracks and ominously funky live performances, Bruno Pronsato is one of techno’s most intriguing artists. His sound is full of contradictions: abstract but organic, sexy but drab, and though most of his records could easily stir a dance floor, they exist purely for themselves, never compromised for club potential. In music, as in life, Bruno likes to get weird, and the suspense that permeates his music often earns him the title of ‘minimal’. But it’s the deeply emotional moments – the warm, amber tones of tracks like ‘What We Wish’, ‘At Home I’m a Tourist’ and ‘The Make Up The Break Up’ – that point to Bruno’s true objective: as he blurted out to an Italian journalist last year, ‘I just want to make romantic techno’.

“In 2006, Bruno moved from Seattle to Berlin to do techno full time, and it wasn’t long before he made a name for himself. His debut 12″ was released in 2003 on Orac, a Kompakt distributed label, and was followed the next year by a full-length album, Silver Cities. Soon Bruno had the attention of labels like Philpot and Musique Risquée, both of whom released Bruno’s next EP’s. By 2005, Bruno’s live performance – an unusually nimble and improvisatory act – began receiving praise from XLR8R, The Wire, and dozens of underground European zines. It also piqued the interest of Ricardo Villalobos and Perlon boss Zip, who invited Bruno to play in their laptop super-group, Narod Nikki.

Around this time, Bruno formed a duo with Sammy Dee called Half Hawaii. The pair played at nightclubs around Europe and international festivals like Mutek, and released two slick minimal records on Perlon and Hello? Repeat. But Bruno’s real breakthrough came in 2007 when he released ‘Why Can’t We Be Like Us’, a strange and beautiful album that received a ’5/5′ from Resident Advisor and endless accolades throughout the blogosphere. This secured Bruno’s position as one of techno’s most imaginative and virtuosic artists, a reputation he easily maintained with his next two releases: the weird and sultry ‘Where’d You Learn to Kiss That Way’ on Hello? Repeat, and ‘Take 1/ Take 2′, a jazz-infected house jam he did with Daze Maxim, under the name Others.

In 2009, Bruno started his own label, thesongsays. It was partly a matter of necessity; he needed an imprint for his most ambitious work yet, a 38-minute epic called ‘The Make Up The Break Up’, so he decided to simply release it himself. Possibly his best work to date, ‘The Make Up The Break Up’ received a deluge of praise upon its release, including another ’5/5′ from Resident Advisor. Later that year, thesongsays released its second record, a debut EP called ‘What I’ve Lost’ by Benoit & Sergio. Dripping with half-ironic romantic sentiment, What I’ve Lost is a daringly unfashionable EP that, perhaps even more than his own tracks, reveals Bruno for who he truly is: a post-punk inspired techno artist that loves staying up all night, sipping whiskey with his pinky crooked.” (words by Will Lynch)

[1337-023] 0x7f – As The World Burns We Watch TV.. EP

The year starts off with a new release straight from the 31337 management! Label head Stefan Klaas aka 0x7f presents his EP ‘As The World Burns We Watch TV’, a classy selection of tracks filled with ambience and mixed with a bit of tech-house and dub. 0x7f doesn’t follow any standards or trends and has a distinct feel for deep melodic tunes with lots of clicks and field recordings wrapped into complex minimalistic sound structures.

While the title shows a critical view on parts of todays society, the EP doesn’t reflect negative thoughts and simply invites the listener to let the mind wander and thoughts flow. Along the 3 original tracks there are 3 fabulous remixes by Akiko Kiyama, Ditch and Sil from the Easy Changes duo. Akiko delivers a wonderfully unique remix of

‘Surface’ that brings in some fresh elements and turns the track around into a new and interestingly mysterious direction. A well structured flow with lots of true minimalism, carefully chosen patterns and straight to the point. Ditch presents a very creative, dark interpretation of ‘Virtualized’, filled with samples that leave some kind of industrial impression. A pounding beat that slowly comes out of the shadows, surrounded by a field of percussions and well selected cuts. Sil pushed the boundaries and made a remix aimed at the dancefloor. Well arranged and cut up percussions emerging between twisted samples and melodic bits and pieces that turn the original track upside down and inside out. Of course with the typical Easy Changes style.

We hope that you stay with us in 2012 for much more leet shit to come! We have planned a lot and will focus to expand our empire to take over clubs around the globe and bring pure dancefloor elitism to the raving underground.

Our next vinyl is almost ready to be mastered and pressed, we just have to wait for a remix, before we can continue. Until that’s all sorted out, we’ll have some nice digital gems ready to hit the stores. The next few EPs are save and you can expect some leet tracks as usually!

It will also display current news about our label and probably more features will be included. It is still in alpha stage, but once it is in beta we’ll make it available for download here, so anyone interested to help us beta test is welcome. [1337-022] Pheek – Mr. Steger’s Space Capsule EP

After working with Pheek for so long, we are more than happy to finally publish a release by our dear friend Jean-Patrice Rémillard! The EP is a wonderful mix of spaced out minimal techno, dub and ambient, creatively arranged with a complex minimalistic structure. Step into Mr. Steger‘s Space Capsule and prepare to escape planet earth with our astronauts Pheek, Hubble and Marc Neyen. Captain Pheek sets course to explore the unknown and you are invited to follow our artists into new imaginary worlds full of playful ambience and lovely repetitive beats.

Put on your spacesuit and get yourself ready for a wild ride that starts with the first track called ‚Making Organic Mechanic‘, an abstract and trippy voyage for your mind. Beware of organic elements turning into mechanic pads while we travel through deep space.

Enjoy the view, we‘ll be landing with the next track on a distinct planet soon. Once arrived you notice, that it‘s almost as if you could hear the solar winds, when you walk with Pheek through a lost world on the hunt for the unknown. Suddenly you hear a melody, where is it coming from? Turns out Pheek and Hubble brought their secret project EEBB to be launched into the orbit and its emitting sound waves. Watch the probe go into space while Hubble records the biosphere. Spheric noises surround you while following the team back into the spaceship.

All systems running, Hubble sets the coordinates for the trip back to earth. It almost seems like the engine is forming a pounding beat while we lift off. Now it‘s Mr. Neyen‘s turn to keep you entertained on the flight with an amazingly beautiful remix until we safely enter our own atmosphere. Want to be part of the next mission? Get yourself a copy of this wonderful EP and save yourself a place in Mr. Steger‘s Space Capsule!
